Allpax Advances Robotics in Automated Batch Retort Systems

Allpax, a product brand of ProMach, has extended the capabilities of robots for automated batch retort systems from handling pouches and trays to a new high-speed sweep style loading/unloading system for handling cans – up to 2,000 units-per-minute throughput per loader and unloader cell. Robotic sweep-type loaders provide an alternative for operations looking for greater flexibility in batch retort automation systems.
A new video shows the robotic loading/unloading system in operation. At the loading cell, one robot sweeps cans into a basket while another places a slip sheet between layers. The unloader cell reverses the process by having a robot sweep cans out of the basket while the other robot removes the slip sheet between layers.
Robotic sweep loading reduces stress on the superstructure of the loading system for longer service life. Robots can perform automatic changeover between can sizes, which saves time and labor compared to non-robotic sweep loaders. Robots can also be redeployed when systems are upgraded or decommissioned. Allpax also offers robotic automation systems for handling pouches, bowls, and cartons. Capacity for flexible packaging can be 300 units per minute, or more.
